THE EASIEST WAY ON HOW TO PROPERLY DRAFT A PRINCESS DART

 Many people have asked me how to draft a princess darf, they figured its pretty tough i only smiled. The world is changing with time so great and fast, espiecially the industry of fashion, too many stlyes and patterns the best way out is to move with the wheel as it moves remaining static would be tragic as the world is becoming competitive you need to master the act of professionalism and as well as strive to be perfect. No one wants to get their clothes ruin certainly not with a stlye that wouod be great so it becomes necessary to improve on this act. Here, we learn, unlearn and relearn.

Don't be scared i will be guiding you on each step so you don't miss a thing even if you are a beginner.

Let's go...

First take your client measurement, your client can be you or the person you are making the dress for. The basic measurement we will be needing for this tutorial include:

Burst roundness

Underburst roundness

Waist roundness

Shoulder lenght

Burst point

Underburst point

Waist point or half length

While taking these measurement ensure that it's not too tight and not too loose so it will fit well. After that we proceed to the main business of the day.

The materials needed for this include: 

Straight rule, curve rule, Scissor, marker/pencil and lastly Paper.

If you don't have a curve rule then you should consider practicing drawing a perfect curve with your free hand.

So we proceed...

STEP 1; FOLD THE PAPER 

In this case we will be using paper to draft our pattern. So, we will fold it into 2 in a manner that will house or contain our measurement.

STEP 2 MARK YOUR SHOULDER

Draw a straight line at the top of the paper which is going to be the shoulder line.

Go down by 1 inch to make your shoulder slope and connect a line with a straight rule. 

STEP 3 MARK YOUR VERTICAL MEASUREMENT

Your vertical measurement include your burst point, underburst point and waist point/half length. 

After you have marked the shoulder down wards, connect a straight line across the various points. 

STEP 4 MAKE YOUR ARMHOLE DEPTH

To get your armhole depth divide your burst roundness by 6 whatever you get add by 1.5 to it and mark vertically at the tip of the shouder length. 

Connect a straigth line to meet the shoulder. 

STEP 5 CHEST LINE

Draw a straigth line across the base of the armhole depth to get the Chest line. 

Now you have 4 horizontal lines apart from the shoulder line. The first line is the chest line, the second is the burst line and then the underburst line and finally the waist/half length.

STEP 6 DART CREATION

 Divide your niple to nipple (burst to burst) point by 2 whatever you get mark on your burst line and waist line. 

Connect the 2 dot with a straight line. (1photo)

Mark 1/2 inch on the part going towards the middle on the burst line do same on the waist line.

Connect the dots together on a straight line.

Do same to the other side but this time mark 1.5 inch (1 and half inch) and connect the 2 dots also.

Next, on the burst line mark 1 inch downward and upward by 1 inch same, the reason is so the breast will fit in perfectly.

Connect with a curve rule, check the photos. (3 photos)

STEP 7 BACK TO THE ARMHOLE

Next is to work on your armhole depth. Measure your armhole depth and divide it by 2, mark the point of division and go in from your midpoint by 1 inch. (3 photos)

On the chest line, take burst measurement divided by 4, mark it.

Using a curve rule connect the point from the shoulder to the shoulder midpoint down to the chest line. 

Join the midpoint of the shoulder to the burst point using a curve rule.

Mark 1/2 inch (half inch) out on both sides of the mid shoulder, remember we raised 1 inch upward the burst point. Connect with a curve to the 1 inch point with a curve at both sides.

Extend 1 inch outwardly.

Add 1 inch to the cruch line on the chest line.

Connect the 2 dots together with a curve.

STEP 8 MARK YOUR HORIZONTAL MEASUREMENT

 Mark your body allowances and add seam alowances.

On the chest line add 2.5inches (2 and half inch), on the waist line divide your waist by 4 and mark it, add 2 inches which is for the dart intake and add 2 inches again for seam allowances.

Connect from the chest line down to the waist line.

STEP 9 NECKLINE

Here, it depends on what type of neck you want and how wide you want it to be. For this toturial i used 3.5 inches for the wideness and 4 inches for the depth, create a curve to connect the both point.

And here we go, we are through with the front pattern. 

Cut out with a scissor, be careful not to cut inside your markings, cut outside.
